Domestic violence affects all walks of life. Domestic violence covers a wide range of behaviors. In New Jersey there are 19 separate crimes that can constitute domestic violence, including harassment, assault and homicide. There is help available – if you feel that you have been a victim of domestic violence you can go to your local Superior Count and file a Temporary Restraining Order. If you are granted a Temporary Restraining Order the protections offered under it are immediate. A Final Restraining Order will be held, typically within a week or two.
